Olympic Games

Olympic Games is actually a series of different kinds of sports and this series is mainly known as only Olympic. This series of games were first introduced in ancient Greece. As far as it can be known Olympic games first began in the year 776 BC in this country. In fact Olympic Games were integral part of the ancient Greek culture. The celebration of these Olympic games continued up to the year 393 AD but after that they were totally stopped. There are still many games that were once popular in Greek Olympic.

All the games that were played in Olympic in ancient years are regarded as the classical games and sports. Some of these classical games and sports are still played in international Olympic Games until now. As far as it is known interest in Olympic games of the modern era was first of all shown by Panagiotis Soutsos, the eminent Greek poet cum journalist. His poem “Dialogue of the Dead” expressed everything about his desires to start Olympic again. Athens was the center of ancient Olympic Games and the name of this city came in this poem.


Foundation of the International Olympic Committee was done in the year 1894 and after that the revival of Olympic games came into reality. The famous French nobleman Pierre Fredy was responsible for the steps that were taken to revive the Olympic Games in this modern era. There are also two distinctive section of the Olympic games in this modern era and they are summer Olympics and winter Olympics.

In 2000 Olympic Games were held in Sydney. Summer Olympic sometimes takes place in Athens. This is to respect the city where the ancient Olympic games actually took place. There are many events in Olympic Games. There are also three main positions that are awarded in this tournament. The first position holder gets gold medal and the next two get silver and bronze medals respectively.
