Nadia Comaneci is one of the famous female gymnast of the world. This Romanian gymnast is popularly known as 'Queen of Gymnast'. She is a winner of five Olympic gold medals. She is also famous for being the first ever gymnast to score perfect ten. She was born in Romania and began learning at the age of 6. At a very early age she started taking part in many events. At the age of 13 Nadia Comaneci won her first Romanian National Championship in 1960. She then began competing in many national events and became the youngest gymnast to win the Romanian Nationals.
The breakthrough came when in 1971 she participated in her first international competition. She won her first all round title in a junior meet between Romania and Yugoslavia. At the age of 11 she won the all round gold medal at the Junior Friendship Tournament. He major breakthrough came at the age of 13 in European Championship in Norway. In this championship she was placed second. She won many all-round championship in beam, vault and bars at the Romanian National Championships.
Nadia Comaneci won the all-round in the pre-event test in Montreal. She received the score of ten in many events. He frequent win in many events and great score made the international community to took notice of her. In 1976 she was named the “Female Athlete of the Year” by Associated Press. The 1976 Olympic Games in Montreal made him a star. At the age of 14 in 1976 Olympic her gymnastic acts in uneven bars was scored 10.0. This score became an Olympic record because no one in the history of Olympic gymnast won this perfect score.
Her Olympic record and consecutive win give her significant amount of media attention. The famous song The Young and Restless began associated with her. In 1976 the song was renamed as 'Nadia's Theme'. In the same year she was named as the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. After the 1976
